There are times when someone else has found words that can hardly be improved, so why not point people to the source. 

 

On this Eve of Christmas, as we prepare within hours to celebrate the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, allow these words from fellow blogger Jason Goroncy, whose blog is always worth reading, to shine new light on the invitation Matthew extends to consider the fact of the virgin birth:

 

"… here’s my response to that invitation: The miracle of the virgin conception is a judgement against the possibility of the creature producing its own word of revelation and reconciliation. It is a judgement against us thinking that we can know God apart from God’s initiative, and that we might save ourselves apart from God’s bloody intrusion into our situation."
